SBMC Membership & Participation

Section 1.    Members of the SBMC will meet the following requirements:

1.    Must be a full-time, part-time or continuing studies student at UNC or must be a full or part-time employee of UNC-Chapel Hill or UNC HealthCare.

2.    All students must maintain at least a 2.0 G.P.A. 

3.    SBMC does not discriminate against any student, faculty, or staff based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, handicap, or sexual orientation. 

Section 2.   In order to become a SBMC member the following must occur: 

1.    Must complete the membership process which includes an application, proof of student or employment status, phone interview and attend special orientation, social meetings and training sessions. 

2.    Pay annual dues of $30. 

3.    Must be available for mentoring, tutoring, or hosting of social events at least 5 times during each semester. 

4.    Members of the community who have provided adequate and approved  background information, may become members based on the executive board’s discretions. 

5.   New members will be notified of their acceptance following their application submission and phone interview and will receive a copy of the SBMC orientation packet.

Section 3.  A full SBMC member has the right to vote in annual elections for officers, serve in his or her area(s) of choice within the organization, revoke his or her membership at  anytime with a written notice, and voice constructive opinions and proposed new ideas for the organization.
