The Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Program
Application Deadline: February 2, 2009.
The Cooke Scholarships are now for graduate
school only. The Cooke Foundation accepts nominations
from colleges and universities from across the US. UNC is
eligible to nominate two students to proceed to the next level
of competition, but they must win the UNC endorsement. The
award will be variable up to a maximum of $50,000 annually
to fund tuition, fees, room and board, and books. The scholarship
is renewable up to six years.

Eligibility
To be eligible
to apply for a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, a nominee must:
- Show a high level of achievement as demonstrated by superior
grades and academically rigorous courses;
- A demonstrated financial need;
- A demonstrated "will to succeed";
- Evidence of leadership and public service;
- Ability to demonstrate "critical thinking" through the
academic process;
- A demonstrated potential for making a significant contribution
with the student's field and to society generally;
- Must not have begun graduate studies.
Scholarships are open to students from all academic backgrounds but the student must demonstrate an interest in the arts and humanities.
Application Procedure:
The Jack Kent Cooke scholarship requires UNC endorsement. Please prepare the application according to the guidelines on the Jack Kent Cooke Web site and submit one original and four copies to the UNC Office of Distinguished Scholarships, located in room 225 Graham Memorial, CB# 3510. Internal transcripts may be requested from the UNC Registrar at no cost and delivered to our office.
The Office of Distinguished Scholarships suggests applicants provide this letter, or a version of it, to all those whom you ask to write recommendations
Applications must be submitted by February 2, 2009.
