About the SECC

Carolina Cares: Giving for a Brighter Tomorrow is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s 2007 State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC).

The SECC is the only charitable giving program authorized for the state employee workplace. The purpose of the SECC is to allow state employees the opportunity to contribute to charitable organizations in an orderly and uniform process.

You can participate in this year’s campaign by learning more about participating charitable organizations, learning how to give or attending a campaign event.

How to give

The SECC provides you with the opportunity to reach out and touch the lives of those in need; to sustain local, state, national and international health, educational, environmental and social service organizations; and to make a meaningful contribution to your community.

You can donate by payroll deduction, check, credit card or cash. Your division leader or captain can provide the necessary paperwork.

When you give to the SECC, you may choose to give to a specific charity or charities from the list of participating organizations, or to make a donation to the SECC as a whole.

A minimum gift of $5 is requested to give to any agency in order to cover administrative costs.

About your donation

Any donation you make to the SECC is tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

The vast majority of your donation goes directly to the charities. SECC administrative costs have not exceeded 15 percent. This is well below the 25 percent cap permitted by the campaign regulations.
