I once had a teacher who also happened to be a nun. Surprisingly, she did not think that a person's morals played much of a role in their ability to be a political leader. She voted for Clinton twice and her distain for Bush made her long for the return of the Clinton legacy. She is not the only person who thinks this way.

I must say that such attitudes are preposterous. Pro-lifers recognize that the unborn child is a human being. And whether those who take this stance happen to be religious or not, this belief is founded in a basic understanding of morality. Therefore, morals are the first thing we should look for in a leader. Let me expound.
The abortion issue was up in the air during the seventies. Ronald Reagan was the man who made pro-lifedom a conservative view. He was and remains a man of principle and morality. He supported his views with such simplified statements as "The only supporters of abortion are those who have themselves been born." Therefore, not only can we thank him for making our point of view a conservative one, but we should recognize that his morality helped him to bring about the conservative revolution, the recovery of the economy, and the fall of the evil empire.
Then came Bush Sr. He was not quite the leader that Reagan was, but a moral man nonetheless. He served this country in so many ways, and he fulfilled his duties as President wonderfully. Case in point; kicking the Iraqis out of Kuwait.
On the other hand, Clinton is not a moral man. He disgraced the office of President. On two different occasions, a partial birth abortion ban was brought to his desk and he vetoed it. He was a proponent of promiscuity and the killing of full grown babies. To top it off, he built a multi-million dollar home with democratic donations after leaving office. He may have been a sly politician, but he disgraced the American political system and furthered the culture of death.
And now we have Dubya in office. A man who did away with the funding of overseas abortions as soon as he came into office, signed the partial birth abortion ban, and is a proponent of abstinence education. In addition, he alludes to God frequently, making the liberals cringe.
So the point is, morals matter. On Presidents day, we should remember not only the policies we elect but the people. God bless the truly great men that have served us, like old Abe, Reagan, and Dubya.
