A tradition of giving

The sisters of Sigma Sigma Sigma are committed to giving back to our community and to those in need. We have several ongoing projects of which we are truly proud. In 1958, Sigma Sigma Sigma began a legacy of support with the UNC Children’s Hospital by dedicating the Robbie Page Memorial Playroom. In 2002, the Children’s Hospital relocated to its current facility, and our sorority dedicated a state-of-the-art play atrium featuring a relaxing park, a Kidzpace video game station, a theater system for movies, a music consortium, and a teen lounge. Since its construction, our members have committed time to play with the hospitalized children and to let them act like kids rather than patients. We share pictures of the Robbie Page Playroom and a visit this past May from one notable alumna of our sorority, Carrie Underwood!
The Carolina community was shaken by the loss of Student Body President Eve Carson last Spring. Sigma Sigma Sigma memorialized Eve’s spirit and her vision of the Carolina Way through our Cookout for the Carolina Way which benefitted the Eve Carson Memorial Fund. The cookout was a great success; we saw more than 800 attendees, and through ticket sales, T-shirt sales, and generous contributions from family and friends, we were able to make a very large donation to the Memorial Fund!
Other projects our girls are involved in include cooking meals for the Ronald McDonald House, serving on the executive committees and dancing for the Children’s Hospital Dance Marathon, and volunteering with many other philanthropic projects and organizations such as Race for the Cure and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Benefits, March of Dimes, Relay for Life, Girls on the Run, Nourish International, the Prom Dress Drive, Food Bank of NC, Heels on Wheels, Get R.E.A.L, and Heel and Best Buddies.
