Campus E-mail and Onyen Assignment
Goals
[draft]
Given the increasing reliance on and acceptance of electronic communication, e-mail is considered an official means of communication at UNC-Chapel Hill. It is important to have accurate and reliable e-mail addresses to ensure electronic delivery of information. Implementation of this policy ensures that members of the University community have an e-mail address where such communications can be sent. The results will be that:
- Every student, faculty, and staff member has an official University e-mail address that is known and retrievable from the University's Enterprise Directory (directory)
- ITS can assure the electronic delivery of all e-mails within UNC.edu, through logging and tracking.
- All e-mail addresses published in the directory will have a consistent format.
- Delivery of e-mail will be simplified by allowing delivery of e-mail outside of unc.edu to occur only at one point, through forwarding; including customer acceptance of responsibility for any losses caused by the failure of e-mail systems outside ITS control
