For most of human history we have searched for our place in the cosmos.
Who are we? What are we? We find that we inhabit an insignificant planet of
a hum-drum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgoten corner of a
universe in which there are far more galaxies than people. We make our world
significant by the courage of our questions, and by the depth of our answers.

SpaceTalk Objectives:
- Promote the space sciences and the exploration and development of space
- Create a UNC seminar series on astrobiology
and space exploration
- Educate elementary and secondary school students about space exploration
- Provide a forum for students, faculty
and staff with a passionate interest in the exploration of space
- SpaceTalk has a number of important goals. For one, we hope to encourage student interest in the space sciences. We believe that exposure to exciting ideas and enthusiastic professionals will inspire younger and current generations to pursue space and science-related careers. The students of today are the leaders, scientists, astronauts and voters of the future. If humanity is to remain a space-faring civilization, we must encourage and insprire the youth of today to continue the exploration of the universe beyond Earth.
-
- Another goal is to advocate the human exploration of Mars and space. One of the defining traits of the human race is curiosity, the desire to explore, to seek out new frontiers. Everything we have and know today, we have and know because our ancestors dared to venture beyond the familiar. The universe beyond Earth is truly unfamiliar territory. Modern scientists know only slightly more about the nature of the universe than ancient scientists did hundreds of years ago. For this reason, SpaceTalk will strive to not only outline what we do know about space, but also what we do not know. SpaceTalk's mission is to pique students' curiosity about the enigmatic universe we call home. Through SpaceTalk, we hope to bring Carolina to the stars and the stars to Carolina.
-
- In order to accomplish these goals,
SpaceTalk organizes a number of activites. Check out the activities
section to read about them and to get involved.

We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go the Moon in this decade and to do the other things, not because they are easy but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win... This is in some measures an act of faith and vision, for we do not know what benefits await us... But space is there and we are going to climb it.
