Ten years, and performing

Since its inaugural season 2005, Carolina Performing Arts has presented nearly 500 performances at UNC’s Memorial Hall with more than 5,000 performers from 65 different nations. It also has presented 35 world and U.S. premieres.

Carolina Performing Arts isn’t just 10 years old.

It’s 10 years bold, as shown by another landmark season that features both internationally renowned performers and emerging artists for a total of 51 performances and presentations representing a vast diversity of styles, forms and origins.

“Our 10th season allows us, first and foremost, to celebrate our audiences,” said Executive and Artistic Director Emil Kang. “It is their enthusiasm, willingness to take risks and thoughtful engagement that has compelled artists to return to Chapel Hill.”

The landmark season continued to unfold with a performance of The Blues Project Thursday and Friday from tap dance ensemble Dorrance Dance. Saturday featured a 10th anniversary gala.

To celebrate its 10th season, Carolina Performing Arts will welcome back 18 artists and companies. In addition to returning favorites, CPA has partnered with Wilson Library’s Southern Folklife Collection as they celebrate 25 years; the Institute of Arts and Humanities’ campus-wide World War I Centenary Project; and will present a three performance program in its inaugural Curatorial Fellowship through CPA’s Arts@TheCore initiative.

“We are proud of the relationships we have fostered with artists over these 10 seasons, and our success during the next 10 will be gauged on how well we move these relationships onto campus and in the community at large,” continued Kang. “To this end, we’re thrilled to partner with the Southern Folklife Collection, Institute of the Arts and Humanities and other campus groups, including our new Arts@TheCore Curatorial Fellowship, as part of our 10th season.”
