Construction keeps campus busy over the summer

Construction crews are working on various projects throughout campus that are expected to be completed in about a year.

Even with most students away on summer break, Carolina’s campus is still buzzing with activity as construction crews work on several projects across campus.

At UNC Student Stores, crews are building a new café on the main level and a student lounge that will overlook the Pit on the third floor. Displays have also been redesigned throughout the store.

Work crews have been replacing pavers, adding new seating and installing new shade trees as part of a project to improve the walkway in front of the House Undergraduate Library. Utility projects are also underway on South Road and behind Davis Library and Lenoir Hall.

Several longer-term projects are taking place at Carolina’s athletic fields. Construction is underway for a new soccer-lacrosse stadium and an indoor practice facility at Fetzer and Navy fields.

Crews will also be building a new field hockey stadium at Ehringhaus Field and a track complex at Finley Fields. The athletics projects should be completed in about a year.
