The Carolina campus is buzzing again as students head back to class for the start of the fall semester.

With bikes, backpacks and plenty of Carolina blue, Carolina’s students, faculty and staff converged on campus for the first day of classes for the fall 2017 semester. Carolina is welcoming to campus nearly 5,200 new undergraduate students, including 4,373 first-year students, the largest first-year class in the University’s history.

Like generations of students before them, this year’s class of incoming students lined up by the Old Well to take a quick, but important, sip from the iconic campus drinking fountain. Carolina legend holds that anyone who takes a drink from the Old Well on the first day of class will earn a 4.0 GPA – or at least have good luck in the semester ahead.
