Pulitzer Prize winner Page to facilitate Town Hall on race and inclusion
The event at Memorial Hall provides the campus community with an opportunity to share perspectives on how to make Carolina more inclusive.
Clarence Page, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, syndicated columnist and senior member of the Chicago Tribune editorial board, will facilitate the Town Hall on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall and hosted by Chancellor Carol L. Folt, will provide the campus community with an opportunity to share perspectives on how to make Carolina more inclusive. The entire campus community is encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and students, faculty and staff presenting a UNC One Card will be admitted first. A livestream of the event also will be available.
“The challenges and pain we are seeing here and around the nation are real, and deserve the significant attention they continue to receive,” wrote Folt and other members of the senior leadership team in a campus email last week. “It is our belief that we have an opportunity to highlight and reinvigorate our efforts to address the issues and gaps that keep anyone from feeling a complete sense of equality and belonging at Carolina.”
Page recently facilitated a similar gathering at the University of Michigan. He has written thoughtfully and compassionately about politics, affirmative action, educational opportunities and race.
