Current Fundraisers

Dimes for Darfur is an initiative founded by NC Hillel in the summer of 2005. Its two-fold mission is to raise money for the children who live in refugee camps in the Sudan and Chad while also keeping the memory of the victims of the Holocaust alive. Each dime collected represents one child; 1.5 million Jewish children were murdered in the Holocaust, and 1.5 million dimes is $150,000. Therefore, Dimes for Darfur is aiming to raise $150,000 by Yom Ha'Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, in April 2007.

STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition is an umbrella organization of over 600 high school and college chapters dedicated to putting an end to genocide, specifically the ongoing genocide in Darfur. STAND formed out of the rapidly growing student movement to protect Darfur and works to unify this anti-genocide movement under one message by providing students with informational, educational and organizing resources, empowering them through an extensive network of impassioned student activists and advocating for a change in the world’s mentality towards genocide.

Past Fundraisers

To help with the humanitarian effort in Darfur, SUDAN has worked with the the non-profit organization, Darfur Peace and Development Organization (DPDO). In addition to raising funds, SUDAN collected school supplies for children who have not been to school in over two years, or whose classes lack even basic materials like books and pencils. The supplies were sent directly to refugee and displaced persons camps via DPDO.

The Genocide Intervention Fund (GIF) is non-profit organization that has combined fundraising for the UN-supported African Union peacekeepers with advocacy efforts demanding government policies designed to improve security and civilian protection in Darfur. Developed and led by students at Swarthmore University, the GIF is supported by campuses and community groups across the United States and in Canada. The GIF offers donors an unprecedented opportunity to contribute to a peacekeeping force with the potential of protecting civilians threatened by genocide and ameliorating the humanitarian aid effort.
