Ranked
by school superintendents as the best publicly supported
education school in the nation, Carolina's School
of Education has been educating teachers since 1876
when UNC-Chapel Hill held the first university summer
school for teachers in America. Today, 56 full-time faculty
offer a full range of baccalaureate, master's and doctoral
programs to 800 undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students.
Students
learn through dynamic classroom instruction combined
with extensive, practical experiences with children
in diverse schools. Research conducted within the school
explores new frontiers, such as evaluating whether educational
reforms really work and using exciting new microcomputer
technology to engage middle and high school students
in science. The school's faculty serve hundreds of teachers,
students, and schools across the state each year through
seminars, workshops, and an online network providing
information and personal support.
More
than 18,000 alumni throughout America and the world
include such notables as the 2006 National Disney Teacher of the Year and the 2005 Superintendent of the Year for the State of North Carolina.
