in 1982, the Hanes Art Center features a Palladian-style
portico that welcomes all to the Department
of Art. The building contains classrooms; a 300-seat
lecture hall; painting, drawing, printmaking and design
teaching studios; faculty, administrative, and staff
offices; faculty and graduate student studios; a photography
studio; slide and photograph collection rooms; a library;
and a beginning sculpture studio. The John and June
Allcott Galleries and the Alumni Sculpture Garden are
also located here. In 1985, the center was dedicated
to Frank Borden Hanes and Barbara Lasater Hanes of Winston-Salem,
longtime supporters of the arts and sciences at Carolina.
