The
School
of Journalism and Mass Communication, the only such
school in North Carolina, is recognized by academics
and media professionals as perhaps the top program in
the United States. The school's 2003 accreditation report
said the school "combines the best in undergraduate
and graduate education."
The school's doctoral program was ranked second nationally
in a recent survey. Twenty-three former students and
faculty members have won or been a major part of twenty-six
Pulitzer Prizes. More than 8,000 alumni work in virtually
every aspect of journalism and mass communication, and
in research and education, across the United States
and around the world.
The school is the center of statewide activity for
journalism education at the high school level, and is
a leader in international mass communication education
and research, including exchange programs in recent
years with Russia, Cuba and Mexico.
Carroll Hall, the school's home since 1999, offers
facilities to match its world-class programs: a TV studio,
audio and video editing suites, and high-tech labs for
multimedia production, graphic design, and layout.
