The
UNC-Chapel Hill School
of Nursing is a leader in nursing education, research
and service. The undergraduate program builds on a strong
foundation in the sciences and humanities and prepares
graduates to practice as professional nurses in a variety
of health care settings. The graduate program prepares
students for advanced nursing practice. The program
requires research, professional and clinical cores,
and an adult advanced practice area with a selected
focus.
The
doctoral program develops scholars who critically analyze
responses to health and illness and the contexts in
which prevention and care are embedded Research. The
school is recognized for the study of the prevention
and management of chronic illness, particularly in the
areas of health promotion and health protection, human
responses to illness, and models and outcomes in health
care settings.
Each
year, faculty practice, service-learning and service
initiatives at the school result in care for over 8,000
hospital patients, 3,500 families in county health departments
and 400 public school students.
