UNC's
School
of Pharmacy is committed to achieving excellence
in pharmacy practice and leading in sponsored research.
One of the nation's first schools of pharmacy, the school
was created more than 100 years ago to provide North
Carolina with an ample supply of trained pharmacists.
Today,
while educating the state's pharmacists remains a fundamental
part of the school's mission, its work extends beyond
the North Carolina state line. What goes on inside its
classrooms and laboratories affects people around the
world.
Annually,
the school educates 500 professional students, 100 graduate
students, post-docs, residents, and fellows. In addition
to receiving classroom and laboratory instruction, students
provide patient care and public service during supervised
rotations throughout North Carolina. Students' research
efforts broaden their education and contribute to the
discovery of new drugs and treatments.
Faculty
engage in world-class research on drug discovery, provide
care to local citizens, offer real-world practice experience
to their students, and make direct connections between
laboratory research and the practice of pharmacy.
