The
Campus
Recreation Program, housed in the Department of Exercise
and Sport Science, has a two-part mission: (1) to meet
the recreational needs of students, faculty and staff
through a wide range of professionally administered activities,
and (2) to provide a healthy environment in which students
can develop leadership, social and other personal skills.
To that end, Campus Recreation programs include:
- Intramural Sports offers more than 60 programs
at varied levels of competition and skill;
- Sport Clubs includes 40 active interest
groups in which students develop sport and leadership
skills;
- Fitness and Aerobics, housed in the state-of-the-art
Student Recreation Center, offers weight training,
aerobics classes, cardiovascular equipment, special
events and motivational programs;
- Carolina Adventures, the outdoor education
component of Campus Recreation, includes a comprehensive
challenge ropes course, equipment rental, a resource
center, indoor climbing wall and other facilities;
- Open Recreation includes unstructured, drop-in
opportunities to play and exercise; Carolina Officials
Association, which employs students as sport supervisors
and officials.
