Becky Binney has been working in the field of health & fitness for over 20 years. She is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Health Fitness Specialist. Becky works with members on a wide variety of goals from sports conditioning, weight loss, injury rehabilitation, and overall body conditioning. Becky promotes a “turbulence training” style workout by challenging your cardio, strength, flexibility, power, and balance. Each program is individualized to meet specific needs and goals.  Please Contact Becky Binney if you are interested in starting up a personal training program

Senior Fitness Testing

Location: Farm Training Room
Cost: $50/hour
Becky provides the Senior Fitness Test for adults 55+ years of age. This is a Nationally Standardized test that compares you to others your age and gender in the areas of upper & lower body strength, upper & lower body flexibility, balance & agility, endurance, and body mass. It’s a great way to see how you compare to others your age and also identify areas of strength and areas of concern. Becky will also provide recommendations and exercise prescription based upon the results of your Senior Fitness Test.

Farm Individual Nutrition Counseling
Time/Days: variable to meet your needs
Location: Farm clubhouse
Cost: $25/half hour; $50/hour
Program Description: Susan Lutz is a registered dietitian who has counseled adults, adolescents and children on a variety of nutrition-related topics.  Susan will be offering individual nutrition counseling to interested Farm members by appointment. Susan works for Essential Nutrition and Wellness, LLC in Chapel Hill, a private nutrition and wellness practice.  Please email Susan at sixlutz@gmail.com to determine the most cost-effective method for meeting your nutrition needs. Program Description
Farm Fitness Director, Becky Binney & Farm Registered Dietician, Susan Lutz want to help you feel more fit. We will offer you a free fitness room orientation and a nutritional consult to get you started on your weight loss program and journey to better health. During your two visits, you will set your own nutrition and fitness goals.   Becky and Susan only require a weekly update and weigh in (we can do more if you like). Tai Chi With James Sutton

Program Description: Tai Chi is a martial art and exercise for overall well-being and conditioning incorporating dynamic movement that improves energy flow throughout the body. Tai Chi helps to ease tension, enhance awareness, and improve balance and strength. This class will focus on the Chen style and various Qi (energy) enhancing exercises. Please wear comfortable clothing, athletic/ soft soled shoes.
About the instructor, James Sutton: James is an instructor with the Magic Tortoise Taijiquan School under the direction of Dr. Jay Dunbar. James has attended international Tai Chi Chuan Symposiums and has won medals in several state tournaments. James also practices Chen, and Wu/Hao styles of Tai Chi, Liuhebafaquan (water boxing) as well as push hands and some weapons including sword, stick, and dao.

Pop Up Cardio Workout with Katie Corley!

Tuesdays & Thursdays
Time: 8:30am-9:30am
Location:  Clubhouse
Program Description: PopUp Workout is an hour long, full body workout that incorporates cardio, toning, and strengthening and flexibility exercises. Light hand weights, stretch bands, balls and gliders are used to work all muscle groups and keep the program challenging. It is an intense workout and you can expect to burn 400-600 calories per class, build long lean muscles, and keep your metabolism revving (bring your own water and a mat, $10 per class)
About the Instructor Katie Corley: Exercise is an important part of Katie’s life.  Sharing this love of exercise and the numerous positive benefits it can provide is what lead Katie to create PopUp Workout, LLC. Her goal is to make each class a challenging and unique workout that will leave you energized, motivated, and stronger to tackle the rest of your day. Katie is an ACE certified instructor and has taught numerous types of classes including barre, HIIT (high intensity interval training), tabata, boot camp, and toning. PopUp Pilates (morning)

This Class is an hour long mat based Pilates class. Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits such as increased lung capacity, improved strength and flexibility - particularly of the back and abdomen muscles, and improved coordination - both muscular and mental. Come experience the core understanding of Pilates and its benefits!

Pilates with Alex (evenings)                                                                                                      Day: Wednesdays
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Clubhouse or Yoga Room
Program Description:  . In this class, Pilates will be the main focus, with the addition of a mix of specific Yoga poses and whole body strengthening movements. By fusing different forms of exercises and engaging long myofascial chains and whole-body movements it is the best way to train the body’s fascial system.
About The Instructor, Alex Strano: Alex is both a certified personal trainer and massage and body work therapist who graduated from BTI in 2005. He has cumulated a diverse experiences in teaching yoga and pilates. Alex has been teaching yoga and pilates classes for the past five years at the UNC Meadowmont Wellness Center.

 

Yoga with Genevieve

Program Description & About Genevieve: The Farm has a professionally trained Yoga Instructor who teaches all levels from beginner to advanced forms of yoga. Genevieve’s teaching stems from a classical Yoga background and is strongly influenced by Iyengar. Genevieve uses props, such as belts, blocks, and straps as aids to help participants into asanas (poses) one step at a time. Focus is on structural alignment, development of strength, stamina, flexibility, balance and concentration (Dharana). About Acupuncture & Dr. Pat Kelly: Pat is a licensed acupuncturist and is board certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbs from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He received this MSTOM from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York, one of the leading academic institutions for acupuncture in America. Pat practices locally at Carolina Partners Wellness Center. Pat has experience in using acupuncture to treat patients for pain relief from pain in the head, neck, shoulders, low back, elbow, hand/wrist, knee, foot and ankle, as well as for general stress relief. Therapeutic Massage with Daniel

Program Description:
Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. About the Instructor Daniel Fleisher: Daniel is a Licensed Massage Therapist. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University.  Daniel is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) thru the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and will be assisting with personal training at The Farm.

 

All Farm Group Exercise Payment options:

  1. $10/class can be billed to your account for each fitness class or you can pay instructor directly

    1. Nutrition & Fitness Challenge: Free (one orientation and nutritional counseling session)
    2. Fitness Room Initial Orientation: Free
    3. Personal Training and Assessments: $50/hour $25/half hour, $37.5/45 min
    4. Nutrition Counseling (after initial session) $50/hour 25$/half hour, $37.5/45 min
    5. Acupuncture: $45/ hour
    6. Therapeutic Massage: $60/hour
