News Briefs 02/21/07

-The Tar Heels are in full swing training mode. This past Monday night had a very strong turn out with even more fresh faces than last week. Looks like the word "Footy" is finally spreading. Thanks to Justus Berger for all of his South Campus recruiting efforts. A reminder: training sessions are every MONDAY and WEDNESDAY from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Hooker Intramural Fields. Make sure you are signed up for UNC Footy's listerv to receive all the latest up to date info on training times. You can join the listserv by clicking HERE.

-There is yet another game this Saturday, 10:30am against NC State. The game will be held at NC State's Miller Field. Teams will be mainly made up of UNC and NC State players with NC Tigers players filling in the gaps. Transportation will be coordinated via the uncfooty listserv. Come out and support UNC Aussie Rules!

News Briefs 02/13/07

-The Tar Heels took advantage of the mild weather last night and had a productive training session. A few new faces were out to try a sport that most of them had never seen before. Also, some North Carolina Tigers players were in attendance as well, including Tiger's Head Coach Jason Heathcote. Heathcote helped with kicking instruction, and got to witness first-hand who may be the up-and-comers for UNC and the Tigers as well.

-Training on Wednesday, February 14 may be canceled due to weather. Make sure you are signed up for UNC Footy's listerv to receive all the latest up to date info on training times. You can join the listserv by clicking HERE.

-Club President Alex Fincham has hinted at the possibility of a Collegiate Tournament being held in Nashville, TN some time in April. As of now, no date has been set in stone, so keep checking back for details as they are received...

-Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming game on one of the two remaining Saturdays in February.

A message from the Club President 01/29/07

Hey guys,

Contrary to what you might have been thinking…I am not dead…just really busy.  Thanks to zims for taking the lead and keeping everyone updated.  So basically, we have the same field times as last semester and there is some other stuff I would like to talk about.  

Sign up for SCC (Sport Club Council) budget hearings starts this Thursday (Feb 1st).  Every sports club has to sign up for one of these budget hearing slots.  I am going to go in and sign up on Thursday.  I am going to try and get the latest slot possible so that we will have ample time to write up a budget.  I was thinking of drafting one this weekend and emailing it to the club members so that anyone who wants to can make any changes that they feel are appropriate.

Also, our “risk management” officers have to complete a quiz/test on blackboard. I am going to go check up on that whole deal tomorrow and get back to you on that.

Finally…It is time to start recruiting hardcore.  Feel free to email me with suggestions about that.  What I think would work best is just making some flyers and handing them out in the pit/rec centers. We should start practice next Monday.  I also feel that we could all benefit from some fitness work.  I’m not saying we should have mandatory fitness sessions or anything but if you guys want to get together and go running or lifting or anything that will help increase stamina for footy, definitely do so.  I am starting to get on top of that…and I hope that perhaps some of you will too.  Anyways…this has turned out to be kinda long.  So I’ll see everyone out at practice next Monday.
