Quick Start - Ad Hoc Dialing

Ad Hoc Dialing is for those who do not require directory support. You may wish to use ad hoc dialing because:

  • You need to access a gatekeeper right away, and do not have time to request an account.
  • You do not wish to be placed in a directory.

Find the h.323 configuration section (preferences, setup, etc.) of your h.323 endpoint (ViaVideo, VIGO, ViewStation, etc.) and enter the following:

  • Gatekeeper: 128.146.199.52 If given the option, be sure to 'Specify'.
  • User name (alias, etc.): Your email address.
  • User number (extension, etc.): Your phone number (no dashes/hyphens, please) with '0011109' preceding it. Thus, if your phone number is 9198437006, you would enter 00111099198437006.

Restart your endpoint (if necessary) and you are ready to make and receive calls. To receive calls from (or make calls to) those registered with zones other than the FLZ, dial and have others dial you using H.323 Dialed Digits (extension, number, etc.). This is the full GDS number, beginning in '00'. The alias feature (janedoe@osu.edu) and local extension (9198437006) ONLY work with others within your zone, and should generally be avoided.
