vPoint Installation

VCON Software installation is a quick and easy process. In order to install VCON software, you must have purchased vPoint installation CDs that install this personal videoconferencing application on your laptop or desktop computer.

To call another videoconferencing user on ViDeNet, simply look them up in the ViDeNet directory. Select the station you want to reach, and dial the number shown as 'H323 Dialed Digits.'

1. Insert installation CD in your CD-ROM Drive

2. The vPoint Installation Utility window will appear. Choose Install vPoint.

3. A warning message will appear saying vPoint will operate normally only if the Internet Connection Firewall is disabled. Follow the instructions to disable your firewall if necessary.

4.DCOM must be enabled on your computer in order to use vPoint. To check your configurations:

  • Go to Start--> Run and type dcomcnfg to check your settings in Windows XP.
  • Open Component Services.
  • Open the Computers folder and right click on the My Computer icon.
  • Choose Properties.
  • Select Default Properties.
  • Check off Enable Distributed COM on this computer if it is not already checked off.
  • Close all associated windows.

5. VERY IMPORTANT: At the next window you will be asked: “Will this system be managed by VCON’s Media Xchange Manager (MXM)?” BE SURE TO CHOOSE NO.

6. Be sure to exit all Windows programs before continuing on with the installation. At this screen choose Next.

7. At the next screen, read the agreement and choose Yes, if you agree to it.

8. At the next screen choose your language.

9. The next screen will ask you to choose where you wish to put the files you are installing. The default is: C:\Program Files\vPoint_XP. Click Browse if you wish to change this directory location and then find where you would like to put your files and click Next.

10. After the installation is complete, you will be asked to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Choose Yes, to finish the set-up. Choose No, if you do not wish to restart your computer at that time, but you will need to restart eventually in order to start using your vPoint software. Also, be aware that some instant messenger services such as Yahoo or AOL may interfere with vPoint software, so you may need to exit these programs for vPoint to work properly.

11. Once the software is successfully installed, you should see an icon on your desktop labeled: VCON VPoint. Double click this icon to start the application. The icon should look like this:

12. To ensure that your IP address is correct, disable your wireless connection and just use a LAN connection for this application. You can go into Start-->Settings-->Network Connections and right click on your wireless connection and choose Disable to ensure you are not using wireless. After you have located your LAN IP Address click OK.

13. The next screen will have you set up your vPoint. Type in your First Name, Last Name, Company, Email and then input your H323ID for the User Name, and your H323 dialed digits for your User Number. The gatekeeper will be specific to your organization. Be sure to delete the Online Directory Server name. Un-check Load on Start-up if you do not wish the application to automatically start each time you start your computer. Click OK.

14. You should now see the vPoint interface. Type in a dialed digit number/phone number at the top right of the screen to test out your camera, headphone, and microphone. Be sure to hit Dial.

15. If you need to change your settings, click on the right Drawer arrow located on the very right hand side of your vPoint window. It should allow you to see your settings and make changes to your Network settings (LAN, IP Address, DNS Name, User Name, User Number, Gatekeeper Address), Call Settings, Hardware Settings, Multicast Settings, and General Settings. If you make any changes, you will need to close the vPoint window (small X located in middle of window) and double click on the application again.
