Auditions
Auditions
are designed to be a fun and painless way not only for us to evaluate
your vocal ability, but for you to evaluate us and see exactly how
we work together and run things. Regardless of how you think you'll
do during auditions themselves, relax! You'll have a lot more fun
if you do.
Audition
sign-up sheets will be in the New Student Union, left in our folder
-- the folder will always be on the Union magazine rack, to the
right of the New Union Desk. If you are interested in auditioning,
you should sign up for a time on the sheets and also take one of
the information sheets (or you can download it here in Word
or PDF format). Be sure to make
a note of your time, and bring the completed information sheet with
you when you come to your audition.
Checklist
for Fall 2006 auditions:
-
Prepare about 16 measures (or a verse/chorus) of a
song that you would like to sing -- you'll be singing it a
cappella (hey, that's what we're about), so don't bring accompaniment.
The music can be anything you like, but the song you choose
should show off your musical ability and also reflect the versatility
of your voice. We've had everything from jazz to pop to choral
music in the past, so feel free to give your voice a try. :)
-
Be prepared to do a variety of vocal exercises to test different
aspects of your voice -- these can (and probably will) include
scales, vocal blending exercises, sight singing, and even vocal
percussion. With these, we're just trying to get a feel for
your voice -- we're not expecting perfection.
-
If you have any other questions about us or about auditioning
in general, drop us an email (walkons@unc.edu).
