Suspension/Belief, new installations by Cameron Ayres and Annissa Clarke, will be on display in Studio 6, Swain Hall on the UNC campus from January 18-20, 2008. The installation is co-produced by Wordshed Productions and Untimely Productions.

Examining shifting notions of identity, faith, love and hope, these multimedia, interactive installations ask spectators to literally and metaphorically suspend their beliefs and explore new relationships with the work and with each other.

Suspension/Belief will be free and open to the public. Continuous admission on Friday and Saturday, January 18 and 19, between 6 pm and 9 pm and on Sunday, January 20, between 2 pm and 5 pm.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Cameron Ayres believes in faeries, and so, clapped. Cameron is a new media artist and a doctoral student in the Department of Communication Studies at UNC. He has an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been exhibiting and performing original material across the US since 1997. Writing about his work has appeared in the Chicago Sun Times, the Philadelphia Daily News, in the journal Theatre Topics, and elsewhere. Cameron has been a resident artist in several programs including the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, MA, and Elsewhere Artist Collaborative in Greensboro, NC. For next summer, Cameron has been awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, a residency program dedicated to fostering the creation of new works from 600 emerging and established visual artists and writers each year.

Annissa Clarke believes in materialism - of a sort. Annissa likes to make things out of other things, because she thinks that subjects come to matter in different ways through different materializations. Annissa is a doctoral student in Performance Studies in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over the last few years, she has performed in, made media for, and/or provided production support for twentyish departmental performances, from thesis work to faculty shows to Wordshed and Streetsigns productions. Previous installation performances include In the Guts of the Monster (2004) and Elements: An Enchantment (2006).
