In the summer of 2008, thirty-five North Carolina educators traveled to the beautiful Central American country of Honduras to learn more about world culture and issues of poverty and sustainable development. Hosted by Heifer International, this unique specialized expedition lead participants through the "daily lives of extraordinary people working to improve the lives of their community".

The itinerary also included a tour of the historic capital city Tegucigalpa, school visits in rural indigenous villages, and breathtaking tours of one of Central America's most well-preserved archaeological sites in the ancient Mayan city of Copán.

Educators explored first-hand many facets of Honduras and gained the confidence to add global content to their teaching and to help make their school or college more global in focus.
