The University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill Young Democrats is an organization dedicated to progressive
ideas, liberal ideals and speaking out on issues that affect college
students. UNCYD is a member of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, the
College Federation of Democrats, and the Young Democrats of America.
Throughout the year, UNCYD hosts speakers, presents
issue-based forums and panels, sponsors campus-wide issue activism, and
serves as a voice for liberal and Democratic students on the UNC campus. In
election season, UNCYD organizes volunteering, canvassing, voter registration
and get-out-the-vote drives, and other campaign activities. The role played
in elections by UNCYD and other progressive groups is crucial in encouraging
students to get involved in politics and to make their voices heard at a
local, state, and national level.
