Creepy Creatures at Carolina
When: October 26, 5-8 pmWhere: Campus Y Faculty Lounge Volunteers are still needed to distribute fliers, stuff goodie [bag] Campus Y cups, and set/clean up at the event itself. Contact Ashley. See more.
Carolina Pet Rescue will be coming with non-dog/cat animals - snakes, spiders, hamsters, guinea pigs, scorpions, rats, etc. There will be a wealth of information on responsible exotic pet ownership. It will give some of us a chance to test whether we we're still drawn to help those who aren't of species we "like"... or whether we primarily help dogs and/or cats because we enjoy playing with them!
Mutt Masquerade
When: October 28, 4-6:30 pmWhere: Southern Community Park (tentative) We're still in need of many more volunteers to join our frightfully awesome team. See more.
The volunteer positions with asterisks currently have no - or far too few - volunteers.

Bayou Rescue
This evening, Amber Alsobrooks, president of Bayou Rescue, gave an informative and motivating presentation at our meeting. See more.
Bayou Rescue provides disaster relief and rescue response for animals and their caretakers, locally and nationally. Bayou would like for us to help put together "creature" comfort kits - small kits with the basics needed to get through a night or two. If you're interested in helping out, contact Alex. We are also looking for one or two people to lead this program!
Ailing Animals
Toby, adopted from the Orange County animal shelter, is in need of a new home. See more.
Toby is a super-enthusiastic, extremely quick learner. Several of us from Helping Paws have trained him to nearly a Canine Good Citizen level (although he is handler specific). Unfortunately, Toby's owner now wants us to help her find a foster/adoptive home for Toby ASAP. If we do not step in for him, she will take him back to the shelter, where he will likely spiral downward and be killed!
We will provide a large crate, chew toys, supplies, some food, and on-campus baby-sitting during the day to anyone who is willing to provide foster care for Toby.
Adoption? First, please do think about whether or not you have the time and resources. Take into account the cost of food, routine medical care, unexpected bills (eg: injury requiring surgery), training classes, and whatever else you might need. Poor Toby has gone through enough heartbreak. If you can make a commitment, please contact us!
Website Wonders
Our temporary website is up and
We are still working on our permanent site, which will feature a full blog that you all can contribute to! We'll also have a community forum. As you can see, our meeting minutes (which are really our weekly updates) are now being posted in a blog format, with a cleaned-up snippet-expanding feature! In the future, we will enable comments: you'll be able to contribute to the discussion, whether or not you can make it to meetings.
