Volunteer Opportunities

Orange County Animal Services

In the past, supporting OCAS has been our primary activity. Members carpool to volunteer at the shelter on their own schedules, and we also run Outreach, a Saturday adoption event series. Volunteers must first attend the shelter's orientation and training in order to participate in any OCAS activity.

Subcommittees

If you'd like to help run some of the logistical aspects of Helping Paws, we'd love to have you participate in Fundraising, Events, or Public Relations. To get started, contact the chair of the subcommittee you're interested in.

Training dogs for Canine Good Citizenship

Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we go to the shelter to prepare dogs for the Canine Good Citizen award. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we also bring rescue dogs on campus for CGC training. Contact Audrey (co-chair, Helping Paws) for more information.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Pet therapy is a wonderful way to help humans, and doing it with an adopted pet helps break stereotypes associated with "unwanted" animals. The Campus Y Youth for Elderly Service (YES) committee arranges volunteer visits at local nursing homes. Contact Audrey (co-chair, Helping Paws) for more information.
