Photos from Providence, RI

In Spring 2010 I had the tremendous opportunity to spend some 4 months at the John Carter Brown Library in Providence, RI, as a Paul W. McQuillen Memorial Fellow. In addition to an immensely rich collection of rare first editions and primary sources (and a none too shabby store of secondary sources, plus ILL privileges that enabled me to make PDF copies of a whole store of microfilms!!!), the JCB provided me with the good fortune to overlap with a core of supportive and much wiser scholars who were generous and forthcoming with suggestions for my work and reflections on the profession. And they were great company on my essays into running, dancing, biking, yoga ... and eating my way through many a brownie sundae and Providence's wealth of bakeries! Add an intellectually rich semester to a great pair of couchsurfers and proximity to family and you have a very happy Allison. :)
