1996 Mardi Gras Invitational

Ok, it has been a while, but I will try to be as impartial as possible in
my memories of this tournament. Daniel and I flew out of Greensboro on
Friday, everyone else had left on Thursday. We brought the original
ringer (O.R.), Jamie Eggers in to help us out. He rocks. So Friday night
doesn't seem like too much. Actually, no night seems like much compared
to Sunday, but we'll get there. Saturday we played Austin, Tennessee and
Florida. I think Florida was first. It started off well when I denied
Angel from the hole after he spun Todd like a rented top. We beat them by
a couple. Then we beat Tennessee. They took a lot of half court shots,
becasue they were seeing two of everything, at least that is what I am
told. That game wasn't close. Last was Austin, who didn't have quite the
team they had last year, but were still a force. Of course we choked
like morons and lost. Then came the controversy of the century, because
of course, Florida had beaten Austin. I had a Smoothie and chilled while
everyone argued about who won the tiebreaker. It turned out we won
because of lowest goals against. Whatever. Then we CHOKED against Texas
A&M on Sunday, up by two in the fourth, I fell apart and we lost 7-6.
That was right up there with worst losses ever. But we made up for it by
lighting the Tropical Isle up. Literally. (Right, Eric?). One for the
highlight reel was Jeremy standing on bar singing 'Paradise City.' Great
weekend. Do it again soon.
