As I've mentioned before, this new web site is part of a class assignment.
One class requirement for JOMC 50/Electronic Information Sources class is to write a paper on a health issue.

I'm interested in HIV/AIDS awareness, and I wondered how churches can educate people about the disease.
In this paper I write about predominantly black congregations and HIV/AIDS education.

I was inspired by an excellent public health class I am enrolled in:
AIDS: Principles, Practices and Politics.

You can read my paper (in Acrobat Adobe/.pdf format) here.

My paper includes the following:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 185,000 blacks died with AIDS in December 2002.

In 2000, according to the CDC, more blacks were contracting AIDS than any other group while only making up 12.3% of the population.

Programs such as The Balm in Gilead are helping churches address health issues.

HIV/AIDS affects everyone.
Here are some informative websites:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Divisions of HIV/AIDS Prevention
This site includes government statistics on HIV/AIDS.
You can find specific statistics about blacks and HIV/AIDS here.
You can find more facts about the disease here.

The Balm in Gilead
This site includes HIV/AIDS education resources for black churches.

Healthy Carolinians

This site includes information on sexually transmitted diseases in North Carolina.
