TUESDAY
NIGHTS UNDER LIGHTS
The Tuesday night pickup ultimate
game that usually happens at Forest Hills Park in Durham is moving temporarily
to a lighted field, effective October 16, 2007.
This regular Tuesday night
6pm pickup game (aka "The Game That Time Forgot") is open to
all, emphasizes the spirit of the game, has forgiving rules, and leaves
out details like stall count and sidelines.
Where is the lighted field?
We'll be playing on a baseball
outfield at Weaver
Street Park (in Durham), about 1.5 miles south of Forest Hills Park.
There is room for one ultimate field.
A great way to go is to take
the bikeway (ATT). From the direction of downtown, go
under the Apex Street bridge and over the Roxboro Street bridge. Take
a right on Otis Street and the next left on East Weaver Street. Field
is 0.4 mi on the right.
By road from
the usual Forest Hills field, the simplest way is south on University,
left on Cornwallis (past S. Roxboro Street), left on E. Weaver.
When do we play?
Pickup under lights starts
Tuesday, October 16, 2007! We will play for 3 weeks in October and likely
continue into November. After that we may have to scramble for another
field. Look for updates here.

How can I help?
Bring your best spirit and
your best game and $3 toward the cost of lights. Pitch in up to $45 a
night for November field reservations ($60 for 2 hours), to be reimbursed
from money collected at the field.
Where can I get more information?
For more information about
"The Game That Time Forgot", including an opportunity to subscribe
to the email list, look up the group on Yahoo.
If the weather looks iffy,
call the Durham Parks and Recreation weather line 560-4636 x2121.
If they haven't closed the fields, then the players on site can choose
whether to play. Any email discussion about whether to play would probably
take place on the Yahoo list (see above).

General |
All has been going
smoothly the past couple of Tuesday nights. Thanks
for your participation and also for pitching in toward the cost!
Two more night
games - come on out!
Please pay $3/night to
Alan in advance (Sat. 10:30 am at Forest Hills) or to John the Red
on Tuesday night (at Weaver St). We'll also accept payment on IOU's
from this week.
By the way, I have asked
Parks & Rec about options for Nov 20 through March 4 and will
let you know what I find out. I've also asked them if they can make
the lights work better. |

We're now on the books
for November 6 and 13! |

Lights |
On Tuesday 10/16 they
didn't get turned on. There is no after-hours phone number to call.
But Wednesday I talked with two Parks&Rec employees
who said they'd fix this problem by making sure we
get on the lights list for upcoming Tuesdays. I'll confirm with them
again on Tuesday morning. |
| |
The Lights Man |
A man drives around to
turn field lights on according to the list he's given. When he gives
us light, be sure to express your appreciation! |
| |
Kids |
The neighborhood kids
are eager for our attention. When off the field, it would be beneficial
to learn their names, listen, and play with them
for a point or two. |
| |
Discs |
Kids want them. I will
bring 1-2 they can play with. I have 5 I can give away. I want 20.
If you have old discs to give away, please bring on Sat or
Tues and I will mark them as freebies and give them out. |
| |
Stuff |
Many of the kids don't
have the benefit of clear personal boundaries. So if there's anything
you don't want to share, keep it locked in a car or zipped
up tight in your bag. When on the sidelines, please keep
an eye on people's stuff. |
| |
Dates |
It's likely that
we'll get November 6 and 13. I expect to confirm on Tuesday
10/23. |
