The Rodman Blog!

The Rodmans have a blog. Be afraid.

Welcome to the Rodman Blog! The exclamation point is part of the name. It's not a very exciting name, I know. Anyway, if you're here, I imagine you have at least a passing interest in us Rodmans, or at least Adam or Lara. We're not really blogging these days, but it'll stay up in case either of us in inspired. In the mean time, you can check out our many travel blogs (located conveniently on our sidebar), the latest being from Connie and Adam's trip to China. Oh, Rodmans.

4) Scrabble all around
5) Connie's gugie gives a surprise visit. YAY!!!!
6) Adam watches dumb Chinese soap opera.
7) Adam's love of roller blading takes an unfortunate fall, and goddamn am I sore.

I PASSED!!!

I did it! I actually passed my math class. Probably with the lowest score possible, but hey, what the hell do *I* care?

Lots of good photos -- I may upload them later tonight. I have to recharge my camera. Now it's time to watch Chinese soap operas!

A Christmas Party

Last night, Jared and I went to a Christmas Party with my parents. ButI can't write about all of that because my dad might show those people this web-page, which I was reminded of at the party when his co-workers told me they had seen those drunk videos of me dancing around. One of his co-workers was talking about it, and then this other co-worker came up and was like, "Oh yeah. No, that was the one when one of them was lying on the ground and the other one was..." Anyway, so yeah.

I think, here at the Rodman household, we are setting up the Christmas tree today. Awesome! Good day. Adios.

Mathematics

That was bad. I think I may have failed my first course! I always run out of time on my math exams, so I was banking on the fact that professors usually double the exam length with three times the time, since, yeah, they don't wanna have to grade them all either. Well, my professor, of coures, TRIPLES the exam length, and a little more, and I was working until the last minute. I am NOT looking forward to getting my grades. Yuk.

A Hottie Dancing!!

I work for the hotties desk. I'm bassically the assistant hottie. Sad but true. So that's why I feel it's neccesary to give you this video of the hottie dancing:

And I got my Chinese grade in: A- in the course! AWESOME! I'm actually pretty happy about it. Or rather, very happy. I'm an A- kinda guy -- let's see if I can keep it up!

Or rather, what I did on my weekend.

But first things first. Two exams down, three to go! Chinese went well, I think, since it boiled down to, essentially, "Were you paying attention for the last four months?" And, I mean, I KINDA was, so I should have done okay. I just turned in my final for Middle Eastern history, so I wash my hands of that. And I had a meeting with Emily and Meghan on the direction of Features next year, and honestly, I'm really, really excited about it. I think that this is going to be a very good year for Features, and I'm glad I get to work with both of them. So here's to having no life next semester! Oh, and I learned that features assistants get paid less than hard news assistants, so, screw them! We're cooler anyway. Whatev.

And some other stuff as well: we took quite a lot of photos this year, so I've created a new webshots folder, called Winter 2005-06 (and cleverly subtitled brrrrrrr or something like that). I'll move it, as well as the old one, up, since it should be in reverse chronological order anyway. You can see all our latest adventures there! I think that's it. Oh, okay... the Rodman Blog! may be changing location when Lara goes to Spain, because I imagine she'll want to put her blog in this location. So don't be sad guys ... and maybe I'll try to get Sarah posting as well!

But okay, on to the juicey stuff. I guess, first things first, Lara, Jared, and I went to the annual Lenoir Christmasathon dinner! All familiy-like, since we ate with Mary and her sister (and ran into one of my friends and her sister as well). The highlight of course, was this:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Lara has the original one, and we really should scan it in. But okay, Santa is really just the dining hall manager dressed up. And Lara's saying something like, "OHHH MY GOD SANTA! I'm SOOOO glad you came! SANTA SANTA SANTA!" And he's probably thinking, "God, I feel so bad for the retards..."

So yeah. Friday night. The Naturals had a show. My parents came over.

That's them. Sarah did too.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

That's her. We all (including Connie) went out to dinner for Indian food. It was surprisingly inoffensive to my stomach. And I thought it'd be a good idea to, like, pregame, since I can't drink at the bar. So, a few things I've learned from that situation:

1) It's really, really COOL to get drunk in your dorm room with your parents.
2) Sarah's good at holding people up.
and most importantly, 3) I shouldn't be introduced to people when I'm intoxicated.

I won't go into that. Let's just say it was, uh, bad. I mean, I thought it was hilarious! But it was still bad.

So we made it to W.B. Yeats eventually, Sarah and I, and we met up with my parents there, Miss Jill, and Diana and her friend Isaac. Cool stuff. The Naturals were SMOKIN', we got to meet Devin's grandfather and Jason's dad. But the highlight of the night was most certainly our new friend:

She looks like a normal, kindly middle aged woman, right? Oh, and she was. She was very polite and helpful. You'll notice how she helps Jared sing the song.

I mean, it's not every day that an incredibly intoxicated audience member is willing to go out of their way and help the band sing! Normally, it's semi- to attractive college-aged girls, so it's nice when one of their more mature fans gets out their to help them!

Look at the passion on her face, the pure, raw emotion! That is why they play music, ladies and gentlemen. That makes it all worthwhile. Of course, the best part of the evening was most certainly this lovely lady's dancing.

Oh yeah. It was somewhere around this point she told me I was the "hottest guy in the bar". That really touched my heart! So, okay, apparently, she's the NUDE MODEL for Jason's art class. I guess I had this stereotype that a nude model would be hot and like, nice to look at naked. Silly me. Then again, someone willing to sit naked in front of an art class probably is a freak.

Not that we didn't dance either.

Oh yeah, if only I had taken MY shirt off. Me and Jill even managed to drag Sarah out. What a cutie!!!!

And finally, this picture, just 'cause I'm hot stuff:

This was probably the latest my parents stayed up for, like, 30 years. Amazing stuff there -- we didn't leave until almsot 12:45. Who knew they could be so COOL?!?!

The rest of my weekend was slightly less exciting, I suppose. I saw the penguin movie. Oh yeah, that was awesome. I think that's about it. Anyway, I'm really starting to fade now -- I'm EXHAUSTED. So I'm going to go take a nap. I'll upload the videos of our friend dancing sometime later today. And that's about it!

Whoo hoo!

That's what I would be saying if I had anyone to talk to right now. Anyway, I just finished my second exam. Two down and one to go. Awesome, guys! And by the way, if you have never heard the song "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time", you should check it out. Because it's awesome. And also, by my lover, Paul McCartney.

Exams on a Saturday?!

What's goin' on, everybody? Anyway, that's what I've got. My English exam. Today. At noon.

Last night, we (the Rodman's) and Connie and Jared, went to dinner at this Indian place, and not that much exciting happened there. But it was pretty good food, so that was exciting because you don't find much of that around here. They were playing this rockin' music there too (it was not actually rocking, it was kind of lame). I can't explain it because my brain is full of English novels.

So, everyone else went to The Naturals' show at W.B Yeats, but I just went back to my dorm room and studied. And then I slept. And I had a lot of dreams about my exam today. This is who they went:

I had to write three essays for my exam (which is true) in two hours. But for some reason, I could only write two of them. And so I was like, "Damn, that puts me at a 66 already". So, that was my dream. And then there were dogs in it too and we were trying to save them from something. Anyway, that's it.

Well, adios, guys! I think I love you all!

Finally, some good news!

Well, I got lots of bad news over the last month or so -- got turned down for Features editor, rejected from working at the China Daily, etc. etc. That's about it, but it's kinda a downer. So finally some good news -- I'll be assistant editor next semester, which actually might be better than Features editor (especially in that I don't have to work QUITE as much, and get paid the same). And I really like Meghan, and Emily is going to be the other assistant, so it should be a pretty fun semester (though CRAZILY insane).

Also, my Chinese presentation was today, and me and Stan SHINED ON LIKE CRAZY DIAMONDS! Wow, that was a really lame metaphor. But I think he'll be picking up the best actor nomination, while I snag the best actress. We were SO on fire (see the poster below if you want to see the mad crazy chemistry we have!!!). And it's not gay, because I played a woman. So HA! Was Romeo and Juliet fruitilicious back in the day? NO! I don't think so! Got that?!

So yeah. That's it. My last exam is on the very last possible day, so it'll be a loooooong week and a half.

Just so that you know...

Hey all. I put some more pictures up on webshots. So check those babies out!

Midnight Drunk Dials

I just got a drunk dial about 15 minutes ago, midnight Thursday, from my boss and coworker, Torrye and Sapna (er, two different people). The gist of it -- Jared is really, really, really hot. And they love me. WEIRD.

Also, the DTH series on religion has been fully published. You can read the first part here, the second part here, the third part here, and, of course, the last part riiiiiiiiiiiight here.

I think it turned out pretty well. Me and Emily both did all the research -- I personally wrote the first and third ones. We put a ton of work into this, and I'm pretty proud. I learned a lot about, well, writing long-term in it too, and I know the next piece we do is gonna be a lot better. That said, I'm in the process of applying for assistant editor. Hopefulyl THAT one will work.

Also, my Chinese skit is turning out pretty well. Me and Stan spent an hour doing this instead of, like, WRITING.

But whatever. It's going to be AWESOME. And not gay, as we've constantly explained, since i"m playing a WOMAN. Fun stuff.

And the final test of hell week is tomorrow, my math test, which I am pretty sure I will fail. But hey. Maybe I'll surprise myself.

Well, no, probably not. Whatev.

Those are the grades I just got on two Spanish quizzes! Awesome! And they were take-home quizzes too. Which just proves that I can be an awfully stupid person. Oh well. Guys, guess what? I'm going to Spain in five weeks. That's pretty rockin'. And judging from my grades, I will fail miserably there. No, just joshing. I don't know why I did so badly. I just kind of think it's funny and I wanted to share. Also (and this is really strange and I hope that this person never reads this), this boy who I went to high school with sent me a message on Facebook (yeah, it's pitiful that I'm relating this story). Anyway, in the message he told me that I am "mysterious" and that he wishes that he had gotten to know me in high school which is strange because I think I just hated a lot of people in high school. So, in hindsight, it's probably better that he didn't know me that well in high school. I think high school is two words.

Mary is telling me a story about how she was changing in the room and the wind blew the door open and there was a photographer outside. The last parts a lie. Mary, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. That's all, folks!
