The flow on top of the Bank is not significantly altered by the
effects of rotation.
Rotation becomes more important when the
disturbance leaves the Bank and begins to propagate towards the deeper
Basin (fig. 10). The amplitude of the bore is smaller, although it travels at a
faster speed than the non rotating case.
Once again, as the bottom shoal the
flow below the pycnocline accelerates, until it becomes supercritical
near the bottom, between T=15 and T=16. The overturning differs from
the non rotating case in several aspects:
- The timing relative to the tidal phase, because of the faster
propagating speed in the basin.
- As the jet develops near the bottom, a relatively strong
offshore flow can be observed above the pycnocline (T=19),
which is absent in the non rotating case, capping the
middepth inshore current. The offshore flow persists, following the
depression as it moves inshore.
- The stratification in the basin recovers more quickly.
