senior picme and sydney

i was born in san diego, ca on january 27, 1982. my dad, brad was a dean at san diego state university specializing in anthropology and archaeology. my mom, laura also taught anthropology. when i was little, my parents always took me to various museums and cultural places. my dad use to take me on digs with him when i was little. my parents have always been a positive influence in my life me and the folks here we are after a hectic moving day at the start of my UNC freshman year.

my sister, kimberly, was born in 1984. she currently attends university of north carolina-asheville and is interested in art history and sociology. i love her and miss her very much. me, dad, kimmy here i am with my dad (with our pug sydney) and my sister last fall.

 

i moved to greensboro, nc when i was 9 years old. the transition was rough, but by high school i had gotten used to southern ways and a whole new culture. i went to page high school and found my niche on the school paper. i loved to write and found a calling in news writing. dad and i before graduation here are my dad and I right before graduation in may 2000.

when i applied to colleges senior year, i immediately knew that i wanted to go into journalism. as one of the best journalism schools in the country, UNC-Chapel Hill was where i headed. carroll hall-home of the j-school here is the journalism school, carroll hall, where i spent most of my time.

in august 2000, my parents moved to naples, florida a nice town on the gulf coast. my dad currently works at florida gulf coast university as the provost and vice president for academic affairs. though i miss them, it also gives me the opportunity to go to florida for christmas and spring break.

sophomore year, i joined the staff at the daily tar heel one of the best college papers in the nation. i started out on the University desk, and loved every minute of it. at the beginning of my junior year, i moved to assistant editor of the features desk. to read some of my writings, visit my portfoilo page.

favorite books: anything by Pat Conroy, especially "lords of discipline" and "beach music", "all quiet on the western front" by erich remarque, "i know this much is true" by wally lamb, "great expectations" by Charles Dickens, any of the harry potter books by j.k. rowling

favorite movies: "e.t.," "days of wine and roses," "kramer vs. kramer," "rear window"

favorite music: wilco, ryan adams, merle haggard, johnny cash, bob dylan

favorite food: risotto, prime rib, caesar salad, the scallop pasta my dad makes, omelets and enchiladas my mom makes, quesadillas i make.

favorite restaurant: nonna maria's in naples, florida

favorite vacation site: san diego, ca, ; london, england, maine
