A Goth
Primer
-
For those who saw this linked to the NYT as *the* definition of Goth,
and heard local newscasters reading dialog ripped straight from it's pages...
I really hope some of you can sniff the sarcasm better than the
news media! This is actually one of the most bitter, biting and *intelligent*
pieces of web.goth work that I've seen. Way cool... and funny...
-
The 2600

A historical listing of some of the best (and funniest) web hacks,
including NASA and the FBI.

Virtual Chantry

of course.
-
The
Darkest of the Hillside Thickets
- A punk band out of Canada whose music is based on H.P. Lovecraft. My
favorite CD from these guys is titled "Cthulhu Strikes Back." You have to
see (and hear) this to believe it. Really. They rock.
-
The American Sign
Language Dictionary Online
-
Part of the Deaf World Web. Even has a ASL Word of the Day.
Music, Audio and Video
-
The
RudeNet Ska Show
- The sound quality isn't always great (try it late at night and it's
better), but still... it's SKA! The office fave around SunSITE was, of
course, the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
-
musicvideos.com
-
(Free) Videos (with great audio) from Chemical Brothers and
the Descendents to Smashing Pumpkins and Voo Doo Glow Skulls... not to
mention the Bosstones and Marilyn Manson! (Note: You need Real Video first, or the Windows Media Player.)
-
www.thecure.com
-
What's my list of links without at least one reference to the greatest band
of all time -- The Cure. This is The Cure's official website, the online
home of Fat Bob and Co. Glorious. They have a web cam, chat room, news
area, and lots of pics. Let's hope that soon they will post an announcement
about a new album, or, even better, a U.S. tour schedule.
-
www.marilynmanson.net
-
Even if you *don't* like Marilyn Manson, you should check out this web site.
It's truly a flawless piece of multimedia work, including audio, video, and interactive
elements in one smooth-running graphic environment. You need Flash and QuickTime, RealAudio,
or an MP3 player for much of the cool stuff, so be prepared for a wait if you've got a slow
connection. (coming from 56kbps, it's not bad, t1 is flawless.) But it's worth it.
Just General Weirdness
-
redcap.org
-
Though I'm not a real big fan of the guy who writes this site (the over-the-top macho
bravismo is not nearly as amusing in person as it is on paper...), I do have to admit
that his work is simple, clear and pretty goddamn amusing. Make sure to check out his
Flash godzilla animation and
read EvenOS.
-
Stick Figure Death Theatre
-
Okay, so this link has been here for about, oh, two years or so. I go back to check the site,
thinking that it's probably disappeared by now... only to find out that this guy's site has
generated enough interest to get it's own Club on Yahoo! and a web ring. Weird, the shit
in this world. But still funny as hell. Heh. Go Matt.
-
Heartless Bitches International
-
Ahem. I think we all know why this link is here. I was a Heartless Bitch of the Week once.
What a proud day. :) I particularly like the Weak of the Week section. Hilarious!

A great 'zine by two folks named Karl and Julie. Not for the faint of
heart -- they have a great sex toy review page, thou!
-
Pyroball
-
Finally... someone who's crazier than me. And Pyros, too. This is
especially for Travis Porter, an old friend from my youth. Woo! (If you
*are* Travis Porter, e-mail me, you twit!)

You know those little Japanese virtual pets? Try this site... it's one

Send someone you like flowers. I personally go for Morticia's Finest,
but then again, that's me... too bad they don't have roses in black.
Witchy Links

The

The Witches League for Public Awareness, located in Salem, Mass., is a

web.
Folks, Freaks & Friends
(co-workers, friends, brothers, sisters and assorted geeks)
I've merged two categories -- folks and friends. My social groups
appear to have blended. Go figure.

A quite worthwhile geek, also known as "Daddy" since he and his wife Renee
became part of the reproducing public on July 4, 1998, welcoming
Raymond Eric into

Yee-Haw, Frosty Mug? ;)
Michael also one of the brethren, with the dubious honor of also being a
past president of The

Another really keen SunSITE/MetaLab-er, old friend/GIGO geek AND past St.A's prez. Now
she works for Oxford Press. Way keen.

Yet another keen old friend and former GIGO-geek. Steph is currently the
Queen of the School of Journalism here at UNC-CH. Well, not exactly but
close enough.

Kat
-
goth and gorgeous! (and my sister)
-
Spider
-
Gorgeous goth-boi who abandoned the familial comfort
of Chapel Hill for life in the Hills of Asheville. We hope he and his tall, dark
and handsome roommate are doing well.
-
Stacey "Cat" Largent
-
yet another Cat... Mrowr! This Cat is of the married variety. The
link here is to Mistress Cat's
Cage, an online version of the Macintosh BBS she used to run when we
were in high school. The Cage is an interesting place -- it's graphics-heavy, but
they're worth the wait!
-
Leann Spradling
-
Leann now works for Lockheed; always said she'd rule the world, but didn't know
it'd involve fighter jets. She and I enjoy being old and bitter
together. Leann, bitter?
-
Eric and Melanie Chernoff
-
A lovely effort from a so-healthy-they're-nauseating couple (as in married couple)
of friends... just make sure you don't miss the "And Bunny Makes Three." You
think I'm kidding don't you? Ha. Go look for yourself.
-
Donald Sizemore
-
SunSITEer past and MetalAbber now, dls is one of the coolest people I know. I wish
we still worked together so he could give me backrubs. Mmmmmmmm.... Go to his site
and read about Disney and Pipe Organs. (I have no idea, I just post this stuff...)
Friends from Elsewhere
net.friends, folks I've met over the

Otherwise known as Warlock Reska, Galen maintains 'The Aviary,' a web page
with lots of personal links and some interesting MIDI background sounds.
-
Aleks
Kobilarov
-
Aleks is part of the original GIGOgeekgroup... an old friend of Michael's
from high school and an all-around pretty keen guy. Aleks is now married
and settled -- a far cry from the rest of us!
-
Serenity
"Wren" Bilen
-
Wren and her husband, Lars, are dear old friends of mine who,
unfortunately, live far, far away in Pennsylvania with their
three beautiful boys. This link was once to Wren's home page, but now it's
some sort of Minidragon RPG. Pretty cool, and if you like Dragons and fantasy, check
it out. Warning, though... it's *very* cute.
Work & Stuff
classes and projects and web-work, oh my!
-
Red Hat® Software
-
This is where I work now. And, yes, for those who are wondering, it *is*
pretty much geek nirvana. As a friend of mine would say, "Ohhhhhhh.... the
pllllleasure...."
-
Baby & More
-
You won't believe your eyes, but I swear to you I did the design work on this
site. Really. See, I've got *range*! ;)
Portfolio 2
-
A facelift for my portfolio site, that I'll get around to finishing... eventually.
Portfolio 1
-
My First Portfolio™. Mostly photography and straight art-work, with a little web
stuff thrown in. Very simple.

Rich Beckman
101
-
I took a Multimedia class with the guru of bears himself, Rich Beckman. He's one of the coolest
guys in the graphic design section of the UNC School of Journalism and I learned a ton from him, even
if he probably did think I was a pain in the ass. The link here to is to his online journal, with photos. It's
truly stunning. Rich rocks.
Here's our project from Rich's class.
-
Cybercasting/Cyberpublishing
-
JOMC 191, taught by the wonderful Paul Jones. (And I'm not just saying that because he used to be
my boss. I'm saying that because I wish he still was my boss.) Here's our project from his class, which, if you are
under age 18, you probably shouldn't go to. A class of Catholic schoolchildren did. I wonder what the
nuns had to say about 'Charlotte the Harlot'. Hrm.

Electronic

Okay, so this is a required class at the UNC School of Journalism. Deb Aikat teaches it, and he's
pretty darned funny. I didn't actually *take* this class, but it's pretty
cool anyway.
