Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

1992-1993, A new wave of young rockers emerged, many of them playing all over the country, and all of them recording and putting out records, tapes, cds., if not on a label, on their own. January '92, I borrowed a Super 8 Camera, bought eight rolls of film and shot a video for Superchunk - my first video. Two years and 439 cokes later - Chapel Hill Young Rock, seventeen videos interspersed with clips of our most famous and not-so-famous locals. Enjoy the show - Norwood.

Only a few of the bands here are well-known and some of them broke up long before this flick was in the can. The thing I like best about Young Rock is that it includes the legendary bands no one in New York or L.A. cares about (because they can't be marketed be the current formulas), like Zen Frisbee, Flat Duo Jets, Chicken Wire Gang, and Mind Sirens. The music industry has only scraped the surface of this town, so far making only the most obvious choices. There are bands here that will last longer than most record labels, and filmmakers who'll be cranking out stuff that they love when Hollywood falls into the San Andreas Fault. Trash
