Platypus Fest

Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

We're in the middle of a weird little exodus period around here. Our most recent (and quite disheartening) loss is drummer Shannon Morrow, who is packing up her things & setting off for Chicago, to see the world. You might remember Shannon from her frantic drumming with the Special Agents of Her Majesty's Secret Cervix, or from her current work with both Bicentennial Quarters and the local-rock supergroup Cantwell. She's a muscular drummer with an awesome sense of rhythm and a never-ending desire to try weird combinations. She plays with two floor toms & she likes to periodically drum up pounding thunderous noise with them. She's one of my favorite drummers, and I'll miss her. So will a lot of other folks, nearly all of whom will be either playing at or attending this giant Memorial Day goodbye party for her, which has been dubbed [apparently by insane Bi-Qs guitarist Walker Martin] "Platypus Fest." I wish I had enough strength in my hands to provide detailed notes on every band playing, but, well, there are nine of them. Suffice it to say that this is a damnfine way to kick off yr local-music summer. The rock commences at 5 p.m., and this is the listing I got, which is in some kind of order:

Bi-Q's

Analogue II

Cantwell

Blue-Green Gods

Biteys

Gold Black Devilhead

Mind Sirens

Evil Wiener

The Mighty OFFSHOOT of Goat Thrower
