Mind Sirens, Billy Sugarfix
Ringside, Durham
Mind Sirens make fractured technicolor "southern gothic" psych-rock
that flows like long Faulkner sentences from the brain of Brian
Butler--it's all crabbed and ornate and has an undeniable internal
logic that's nevertheless pretty inscrutable from the outside looking
in. They've been doing it for 13 years or more; this is the
"classic"
circa-93 lineup with Mike Barker on bass and Bill McCormick on drums.
Bill also opens the show, performing as his alter-ego Billy Sugarfix.
I've seen Billy put on a genuine one-man-band performance, complete
with simultaneous guitar-singing-percussion, but I don't know if he'll
be attempting that here, or if he'll just be singing his wistful songs
of love and loss and the power of extended metaphor.
