James Moeser didn't step into the office of UNC chancellor with a clean slate. The University's top administrative official inherited an ambitious plan to give every student Internet access, a blueprint for 50 years of campus growth and a lofty goal of making UNC the best public university in the nation. They all came from the unfinished agenda of the late Michael Hooker, who died of cancer in June 1999. |

Before Student Body President-elect Jen Daum posted her first campaign flier, she already was bucking a UNC trend. When Daum officially declared her candidacy for student body president
in January, she became just the 12th woman in the last 10 years to
run for the position -- compared to 44 Daum broke another campus trend Tuesday when she was elected as
only the third female student body president since the position's
inception in 1921. |

| April 03, 2001
Senior Brad Matthews departs from the office of student body president
today, leaving his administration and accomplishments to memory. As he hands over the reins of Suite C to junior Justin Young, Matthews said the greatest achievements of his term will be defined by the success of student government in the future -- and won't be directly attributed to his administration. |

January 16, 2003 For a program that is already well-established and almost universally praised, Arts Carolina is operating in a state of continued limbo. The program has just completed its three-year initiative, and during that time it can lay claim to organizing several festivals, publicizing hundreds of arts events through its Web site and periodical, leading an artistic campus response to Sept. 11, and being the target of a glowing evaluation. But those credits don't necessarily add up to permanent future funding. Click here to see the full text

September 12, 2002 If moviegoers hesitate to see "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" because they think it's just a simple documentary on a simple topic, it's hard to fault them. After all, that's what filmmaker Sam Jones thought when he joined innovative Chicago rock group Wilco as it began to record its fourth album -- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. |
August 29, 2002 It's one of the more bizarre casualties of the MP3 age. As music files are traded en masse through file-sharing Web sites like Morpheus and Kazaa, a band's obscure cover or remix can gain a huge following all while the name of the band itself is forgotten. Such was the case for Austin-based alternative country outfit The
