Stephanie Scarborough
Doughnut Sonnet No. 50

How does one eat a doughnut? I will tell.
First, choose the doughnut you plan to consume,
Inspect for firmness, sprinkle count, and smell,
And check for proper feng shui in the room
To get the most out of your dining time.
Ensure the sprinkle count does not exceed
Twenty-seven, but is no less that nine.
When all these need are met you may proceed
To insert the fried pastry in your mouth,
Chew thoroughly, perhaps ten or twelve times,
To aid the doughnut in its journey south.
Wash down with any beverage, perhaps . . . wine?
And when your dining process is complete
Select another doughnut and repeat.
