Doughnut Sonnet No. 1
How does one pick one doughnut from this tray?
The first one with the sprinkles calls to me
With all it's perfect icing artistry.
Arranged on doilies in a vast array
The second and the fourth one seem to say,
"Oh, eat us, we are cream-filled ecstasy!"
The sixth one is a chocolate fantasy,
And the eighth one's jelly-filled today--
But no, I will be modest with my choice.
The third one's plain and that is all I need;
I need not sprinkles, icing, or that stuff,
Because for me a plain one is enough.
And now my satisfaction's guaranteed
That with my doughnut choice I will rejoice.
