Last Week's Question - Okay...I've decided I'm too squeamish to ask a question like that again. Back to the realm of safety - The Holiday Season. How long is too long to keep a Christmas tree? I know my family likes to keep the tree well into January, but I see a number of trees on the streets by January 1. Where do these trees go? The Christmas Tree retirement facility where they hang out and reminisce of the holidays gone by? Have you ever tried to visit them? Let's be realistic here, folks.

------

My Answer -

Lillian O - Well, I think that keeping the tree up, whether real or artificial, past the middle of January is getting excessive... and keeping it up past January 31st is downright ridiculous. C'mon, who wants to look at Xmas decorations come Valentine's Day?

Where do the trees go? Well, their dryads must go back to Mount Olympus. Where the tree bodies go depends on the community. The good folks of Miami can, but are not obligated to, take their trees to a dump site mulching place and have them crunched up... and then they can take home the pine mulch, for free. Others just leave them out, hoping the big trucks from the Waste Dept. will haul them away. I hope that these dying beauties won't mostly go into the landfill.

Justin S - This year is the first year since 1994 that my family has put up a real live Christmas tree. At first I was really excited and when I went home one weekend, I dashed to the living room to see the tree in all its holiday splendor. As I looked at the still living tree wrapped in lights and adorned with ornaments, I started to think about the Borg and assimilation. This beautiful tree was heavily covered in wires and hooks and was doomed to never again see the sky or feel the wind or have a little bird play in it's needles. My family was just like the Borg and I'm a hippie for caring.

Linda D - I really don't know about were the trees go except the big bad garbage Men to my relief takes them away, But actually I have an artificial tree and I put mine back in It's box for the following year. I would really hate to chop down a tree just to throw it away , But than again I live in LV NV we don't have allot of Trees. Happy New Year To All !

This Week's Question - Lots of things are dubbed "the best since sliced bread." But what reigned before bread became sliced? When there were no pre-cut loaves, what was the best?
