This game is significant in my mind for three reasons. First it was a win against a Big10 team on their home turf (albeit, a bad Big 10 team). Second, for me it marked the beginning of the tenure of Ron McBride (although, it was his second game as coach). Finally, the game was won in such dramatic fashion.
Nothing about the first 46 minutes of the game was very remarkable. Utah played reasonably well, but found themselves tied with the Gophers and Minnesota had the ball deep in Utah territory. With less than 10 seconds left on the clock, they set up for a field goal of 30-40 yards to win the game. Somehow Utah managed to block the kick and return it all the way for a touchdown. The game ended in a huge dogpile in the endzone, with Ron McBride on top.
