This index was compiled using the Jen min wen hs"ueh ch'u pan she 1982 edition of "Kuo Mo-jo ch'"uan chi. Wen hs"ueh p'ien". (人民文學出版社, 1982版, "郭沫若全 集文學篇")
| WadeGiles | Pinyin | Hanzi |
Because of the lack of access tools to "Kuo Mo-jo ch'"uan chi. Wen hs"ueh p'ien (郭沫若全集文學篇)" at the Academic Affairs Library of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this index was compiled to facilitate the use of this work.
The primary targets of this index are users who are familiar with the Wade-Giles and Pinyin transliteration systems. A Chinese stroke (pi-hua (筆劃)) index is also included. When using the stroke index, please bear in mind the following notes:
Being constrained by the software functions selected for this indexing project,
a) Chinese characters are sorted by the internal codes of each character in the software, not by the number of strokes of each character. Though in most cases the value of the internal codes agree with the the number of strokes in each character, exceptions do occur.Several conventions have been applied in the process of compiling this index:b) Chinese characters are all displayed in traditional forms.
1) Personal names
Last names precede first names which in most cases are hyphenated. The first words in names are capitalized.
| In the Wade Giles system | In the Pinyin system | ||
| e.g. | Kuo Mo-jo | (郭沫若) | Guo Mo-ro |
| Chiang Chieh-shih | (蔣介石) | Jiang Jie-shi | |
| Mao Tse-tung | (毛澤東) | Mao Ze-dong | |
| Ch'eng Ying | (程嬰) | Cheng Ying |
2) All geographic names and foreign personal names are hyphenated.
| In the Wade Giles system | In the Pinyin system | ||
| e.g. | Mei-kuo | (美國) | Mei-guo |
| Pei-tai-he | (北戴河) | Bei-dai-he | |
| Lu-i-ssu | (路易斯) | Lu-yi-su | |
| Jih-pen | (日本) | Ri-ben |
3) Dates if expressed in venacular numerals are converted to equivalent arabic numerals.
e.g. in text '一九五八年' appears as '1958 nien' in the index.
4) Ordinal vernacular numerals representing a true sequence or totalled numbers are converted to the equivalent arabic numbers in the index.
| e.g. | '第三幕' | appears as | 'ti 3 mu' |
| '打油詩 (八首)' | appears as | 'ta yu shih (8 shou)' |
5) The 'ss/sz' sound variation in the Wade Giles system is presented by 'ss' only in the WG index.
Limited by available resources, this indexing project is currently set for title access only. We would like to expand the scope of this project to include names, subjects, and other categories when resources become available. We very much appreciate your comments. Please address them to:
