Holt McPherson



The following was taken from the NY Times Obituary in Aug. 12, 1979.

Mr. McPherson, who retired in 1972, was in the newspaper business most of his life, working primarily at The [Highpoint] Enterprise. He had also been editor of The Shelby Daily Star and had worked at The Miami Herald.

He served in a Federal post in World War II with the Board of Mobilization and held state appointments under every North Carolina governor since O. Max Gardner.

At the time of his death, Mr. McPherson was president of the Journalism Foundation at the University of North Carolina and chairman of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission.
