Discussion Group Participation

Point Values per group

Every team member will distribute the group's Point Value among his or her teammates, according to what s/he thinks the teammate's participation level for the write-up and class session was.

For example, think of a three-person group, with a Point Value of 10. Hortense thinks that everyone in her group participated equally, and she assigns 5 points each to her two teammates, for a total of 10 points. Beauregard does the same. However, Milton thinks that Beauregard was a slacker, and that Hortense picked up extra work to cover him. He assigns 3 points to Beauregard and 7 to Hortense, again for a total of 10 points.

The key to remember is that, however you decide to assign the points, the total must equal the Point Value for the group. Each individual's participation grade for the session will be an average of the points assigned to them by their team members. In the above example, then:

Hortense: 5 from Beauregard + 7 from Milton = 12 / 2 = 6 points
Milton: 5 from Hortense + 5 from Beauregard = 10 / 2 = 5 points
Beauregard: 5 Hortense + 3 from Milton = 8 / 2 = 4 points

I will an email to the members of each group after their discussion session. You will reply directly to me with the points you wish to assign to your team members. Each student will receive his or her own overall grade for the session, but the exact distribution of points (i.e., who assigned how many points to whom) will remain confidential.
