(scheduled being the operative word, that is)
so guess what? we woke up to clouds and 20-30 mph winds. houghton's about 5 miles away from lake superior, which means the winds were even stronger there - and most undoubtedly the waves were humongous. so let's just leave a day late instead and make us interns pay for yet another night in the hotel ;). i really like the folks i'm working with, i feel i can really connect with them, and that's good since we'll be "trapped" as a local said people feel after a summer at isle royale. :). so yeah, we had our first day of training at the park headquarters in houghton instead of a nice six-hour ride on the lake. pictures are below...
