i went on my first solo backpacking trip to lane cove on the north shore thursday (26 june) to saturday (28 june).
quite amazing.
7 miles to lane cove.
felt my head cleared and body rested more so than ever before.
2 days at lane cove.
saw the sun set over the lake; heard loons cry their plaintive cry multiple times; sat on the pebble beach huddled in my sleeping bag for warmth and protection from the mosquitoes and just watched the evenings unfold.
15 miles to rock harbor via the greenstone ridge, daisy farm, and three mile.
never hiked more than 6 miles before thursday; and it's wonderful to feel real soreness from real exertion and to have really proven that, yes, i can do this.
below is my drawing of the sunset on friday.
pictures will come soon enough.

left to right. (1)
a choppy, blustery day on the way on the rock harbor trail. (2) pond on the way up the greenstone ridge. (3 & 4) views from the top of the greenstone ridge (around 1,000 ft. above lake level) (5 & 6) woodpecker (pileated i believe?; if so, a threatened species) and beaver dam i saw along the way. (7) first sight of lane cove. (8) the logs along the pebble beach a few yards from my tent, you might recognize them from the sketch above. (9) a gorgeous sunset.
