random stuff it's taken me this long to get off of my camera ;)!
20 june to 9 july 2003.

SO. here you can see the fox family right after the kits were playing within 5 feet of valerie and me; the moose that was browsing about 3 feet outside my kitchen door one day. and whatnot. however, the animals' "cute"ness can lead to bad endings - for a family living with so much contact to humans, the rock harbor camp foxes are still managing quite well. there have been serious problems the past several years with too many visitors being drawn in by how "cute and cuddly" they are, and giving them handouts - which, with say potato chips, do them no good, and mean, once everyone's gone come october, they may very well have lost a lot of their hunting prowess. so, don't feed the foxes! and don't get between mama moose and her calf! especially this time of year - right after calving. josh was charged at and almost attacked when he came between a pair on the way to his cabin last week - a funny story in retrospect, but not if worse came to worst. and, a grand marais, minn., forest service worker was charged last week :\. eep. but, with that in mind, admire them :). it was fun to walk into my kitchen and think "something's different than normal..." and to see the kits playing with mama. okay. enough rambling!

the foxes :). (2) the moose outside my door - i believe that was the bull of the pair, i think. this pair feeds regularly by the ben east house and in rock harbor; usually can be found around 8:30 at night every few nights or so. he and the cow migrated with me down to the ranger station (3) where i caught another shot out the window there. (4) a beautiful fog that rolled into the harbor one morning. (5) brandi and val hanging out in the visitor center. (6) scott being ... scott ;) haha ... one night at the ralph house. (7) a beautiful rainy morning; i caught the ranger iii for a ride to mott to get some work on my program done. (8 & 9) a coralroot orchid jim found tonight when i was over at the ralph house; a wonderful find, though the photo came out a little blurry (or, in the case, hardly at all on the right; but i love how it caught the thimbleberry and tree in the background, so hey - i'll post it anyway). (10) and since i've been chided for not having a pic of me in my uniform, here you go - taken just now for all y'all to see ;). cheers!
